What Is Tax Compliance Certificate?
A KRA tax compliance certificate, sometimes called a Tax Clearance Certificate, is a legal document that the KRA issues as evidence that you have filed and paid all of your taxes.
Upon request, KRA issues the following Tax Compliance Certificates:
- Taxpayers seeking contracts with government ministries and institutions should submit tax compliance certificates.
- Certificates of Tax Compliance for workers quitting their jobs or looking for new employment.
- Certificates of Tax Compliance for taxpayers applying for alcohol licenses.
- Certificates of Tax Compliance to Clearing and Forwarding Agents.
Validity of KRA Tax Compliance Certificate
Tax Compliance Certificates are only valid for a year.
Seven days before the current certificate expires, an application for a new one should be submitted.
The TCC is requested using the iTax portal, and the applicant’s email address receives the certificate.
Applying for a KRA Tax Compliance Certificate
Taxpayers must be in compliance with the following to receive a Tax Compliance Certificate:
- The submission of tax returns on or before the deadline for all necessary tax filings.
- Taxes must be paid on time or before the deadline.
- The repayment of all owed taxes.
